Remix for Orchestra
BROOKLYN PHIL BEETHOVEN REMIX PROJECT

We’re looking for Brooklyn-based DJs, producers, or anyone else who works with musical samples who’s excited about hearing their work brought to life by a full orchestra, and who’s interested in creating something new and original out of material from the finale of Beethoven’s Eroica symphony. The Beethoven Remix Project culminates in a June 9, 2012 orchestra concert featuring Mos Def, in which one winning remix will be performed by the full orchestra, in an adaptation created by you and Bed-Stuy composer Andrew Norman.

The schedule for the process is:

  • October 1, 2011: Applications due
  • October 15, 2011: The Brooklyn Philharmonic will choose five finalists, each of whom will be invited to remix the Finale of Beethoven’s Third Symphony, the “Eroica.” These artists will receive a stipend of $200 for their remix.
  • December 15, 2011: The five finalists’ Beethoven remixes are due. All five will be promoted on the Brooklyn Philharmonic website, included on a mix tape distributed to the audience at the Brooklyn Philharmonic’s June 9, 2012 concert with Mos Def, and played before, during, and after the performance.
  • January 1, 2012: One winning remix will be chosen to be arranged for orchestra by composer Andrew Norman. This remix will be performed by the orchestra at the June 9, 2012 performance in Bedford-Stuyvesant Restoration Plaza.

Particular focus will be given to artists from Bed-Stuy and the surrounding communities, and all musical styles are welcome!

Please submit 3-5 samples of your work along with the following information by clicking on this link.
